Volunteers

The successful management of WGSC, like many sports clubs, is dependent on the dedication of our wonderful volunteers. WGSC is in urgent need of additional voluntary support from parents, carers, family members and potential coaches.  Currently, the club is operating with individual volunteers covering multiple roles to ensure that swimmers get the best possible experience.

There are two categories of roles, both essential to the running of the club. Committee roles and Gala roles. You don't need experience, or to be an expert. The club will support with training where needed to enable volunteer growth.


Executive (must have) roles:
 

• Chairman: Allan Warburton- the principal officer for the club, provides direction and leadership.
   

• Secretary: (Vacant) – manage the day to day running of the club, are the main point of contact for administration, information and communication. Click here to let us know you're interested in supporting with this role.
   

• Treasurer: Kate Minikin - responsible for producing and managing the club’s accounts and finances.
   

• Welfare Officer: Peter Jasko (Soon to be Vacant) – implement and manage the club according to Wavepower, Swim England’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures document. Click here to let us know you're interested in supporting with this role.
   

Non-Executive roles:
 

• Membership Secretary: Scott Koronka – manages club membership.
   

• Fundraising Officer (Vacant) – leads the development of opportunities for accessing grants and other forms of funding. Click here to let us know you're interested in supporting with this role.
   

• Swim Shop Manager: Jane Ashton - Jones - maximise club branded sales to increase income and/or raise the profile of the club within the community.
   

• Gala Secretary: Ricardo Rossetti- develops and manages the clubs competitions calendar.
  
  
  Gala Roles
  
  As a club, we aim to offer swimmers the ability to attend galas both run by the club and also by invitation from other local clubs. Galas come with a level of expectation that the club will supply volunteers that hold certain skillsets which are outlined below. Nearly all volunteers enter this without any prior knowledge and all training is funded by the club.
  
  Without more volunteers we will not be able to continue to run galas.
  
  Team Manager (TM): The TM is responsible for the safeguarding and wellbeing of the RSC swimmers and is the firs point of contact on the day of a gala for the team. One TM is required per team - volunteer now!
  
  Timekeeper (TK) – stands at the end of the lane to record the time for the race. If you can use a stop watch, you can do this role! A TK needs to be 14 years of age - volunteer now!
  
  Judge Level 1 (J1) – is responsible for judging whether the swimmer’s stroke is in line with the Swim England requirements. J1’s don’t need to be swimmers - there is lots of training and support to gain this skill volunteer now!
  
  Referee – is responsible for the correct running of the gala within the requirements of the licence. The referee course contains theoretical instruction and specified practical experiences. It is followed by a formal examination in November after which successful candidates take a final poolside practical assessment. A referee needs to be at least 19 years of age to start training and at least 20 years of age when the formal examination is taken volunteer now!
